Tori’s story

I have suffered from chronic back pain for 3 years now, I can clearly remember 3 years ago waking up one morning and not being able to move properly. From that day on I have had to learn how to do a lot of activities again and have had to battle through lots of mental hurdles.  

When I had my MRI the doctor told me I have the back of a 60-year-old and that they feared for my future with work and having children. I was regularly seeing a physio who said building my core strength would be the only way to manage my pain. I joined a pilates group at my physio which only ended up making it worse. Through this time, my mental health really suffered and I struggled to get out of bed every day.

I decided I could not keep living like this and decided to start going to the gym in hope to build some strength to hopefully prevent my pain. I realised I did not really know what to do in the gym with weights so decided to have PT sessions with Gavin from Bring The Energy, in hope to build strength and knowledge.

I have now been training with Gavin for 12 months and have learnt a lot about core stability, core strength exercises and how to correctly perform exercises. It has been a big learning curve to understand what exercises I am able to perform and which ones will aggravate my back pain. The skills and knowledge that I have obtained from Gavin throughout the past 12 months have helped me have minimal flare ups, become physically stronger and be able to mentally cope with my set backs. I can now use the knowledge that I have gained to progress through my health and fitness journey.
